Which Boston flight should you look for?
For Boston flights to the Azores, start with Boston Logan (BOS) to Ponta Delgada (PDL) if São Miguel is your main destination. Azores Airlines operates the nonstop corridor; its 25 October 2026 departure board lists Boston–Ponta Delgada as a single flight. Search your actual outbound and return dates rather than assuming the same departure operates every day.
If you want Terceira, also search BOS to TER. The airline markets that route separately, but a route offer page is not proof that every result is nonstop. Open the flight details and compare stops, arrival date and total journey time before choosing between a Terceira arrival and a connection through Ponta Delgada.
Azores Airlines: Boston departure statusPonta Delgada or Terceira: choose the island, not only the fare
Ponta Delgada is on São Miguel. It is the useful arrival for Sete Cidades, Furnas and a São Miguel road trip; it is not an airport serving Pico by road or a quick harbour transfer. Start a São Miguel stay in Ponta Delgada for city services and organised departures, or choose a different base deliberately.
TER is Terceira’s airport at Lajes. Choose a Terceira arrival for Angra do Heroísmo, Praia da Vitória and an island stay there. Angra and Praia are different accommodation choices, not two names for the airport. If your first hotel is on Pico, neither PDL nor TER finishes the journey: price the next island flight and ground transfer before buying the transatlantic ticket.
Azores Airlines: Boston–Terceira flightsRead the overnight arrival date before booking the first room
Boston departures can arrive in the Azores the next morning. Use the arrival date printed on the itinerary when booking your hotel, rental car and onward flight. Airline departure and arrival times are local; do not subtract the two clock readings to work out flight duration.
An early landing also does not mean your room will be ready. For the first day on São Miguel, a Ponta Delgada walk is easier to adjust than a prepaid activity with a fixed start. Arrange luggage storage or early access with the accommodation if you need it, and leave a longer driving day until after you have rested.
Azores Airlines: Boston departure statusConnecting to Pico, Faial or another island
Search the complete BOS-to-final-island itinerary as well as a standalone Boston flight. Compare one ticket with separate purchases, including the fare rules for a missed onward flight; a connection displayed by a search engine is not itself a promise that two separate bookings are protected.
Pico’s airport is PIX; Horta on Faial is HOR. They are different islands. A Horta arrival can be useful for a Faial-and-Pico holiday, but reaching Pico then needs a road transfer to Horta harbour, a dated ferry to Madalena and a further transfer on Pico. Do not compare the airfare alone against an arrival at PIX. For a short São Miguel holiday, an extra island can cost more usable time than its flight duration suggests.
SATA: Ponta Delgada departure statusCompare baggage and airport deadlines in the total price
Compare the payable fare with the checked bag, seat selection and change conditions you need; the airline’s headline route offers are recently collected fares, not a reserved price. If you connect to SATA Air Açores, read that leg’s baggage conditions too. Keep medication, travel documents and essentials in your personal item if a cabin bag has to go into the hold.
SATA’s published Boston check-in window opens three hours before departure for this journey, with intercontinental check-in closing one hour before departure. These are desk deadlines, not a reason to aim for the closing time. Follow the instructions on your booking, especially if another airline operates a leg.
SATA: check-in opening and closing timesTravel during 21 October–3 November 2026
SATA has published a handling-strike notice for Azores airports covering 21 October–3 November 2026. It warns of possible disruption to Azores Airlines and SATA Air Açores; it does not say every Boston or inter-island flight is cancelled. Consult the flight status for each leg and the dated notice before leaving for the airport. If an onward island move is essential, avoid making a separate, tightly timed ticket the only way to reach it.
